19 Countries Paused: USCIS Director Reveals New Vetting Center & Emergency Actions

The Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, Joseph Edlow, joins the studio to discuss the D.C. attack involving an Afghan national and the sweeping actions USCIS has taken in response. Edlow explains why the agency temporarily halted final asylum decisions, paused immigration benefit adjudications for individuals from 19 countries listed in the President’s proclamation, and launched a review of recent green card grants.

He also details the challenges of vetting applicants from nations with limited intelligence-sharing, why gaps exist in criminal data, and how USCIS is restructuring its fraud detection and national security operations. Edlow formally announces the creation of the USCIS Vetting Center in Atlanta and explains how officers will evaluate both derogatory information and positive indicators of community contribution, assimilation, and moral character.
