Why are Queensland teachers striking? | ABC NEWS

More than 50,000 Queensland school teachers are striking for the first time in 16 years today, after negotiations with the government over pay and conditions broke down last week.
Teachers in Brisbane marched from the Convention Centre to Parliament House, where state budget estimates are underway.
Speaking with Steve Austin on Brisbane Mornings, Honorary Vice President of the Queensland Teachers Union and Noosa-based teacher Josh Cleary, says teachers across the state are experiencing physical violence and verbal abuse both from students and parents across the state, which has left them burnt out and frustrated.
Brisbane-based teachers also said the level of unpaid overtime and negative view of the teaching profession has made it difficult for them to encourage students to pursue teaching as a career.
