RFK Jr. announces FDA plan to cut drug prices and boost competition

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. announced a major step by the FDA to lower prescription drug costs and improve access to affordable medications.

Under the new plan, the FDA will issue updated guidance for biosimilars, allowing companies to use advanced testing methods instead of expensive human trials when safety and effectiveness are already proven.

The agency will also consolidate multiple outdated rules into one streamlined framework, making it easier for safe, affordable alternatives to reach the market.

Kennedy said these reforms will mean “more competition, lower prices, and faster access to life-saving medicines.”
