Inside the Battle to Be the Trumpiest Streaming Channel

As Donald Trump faces mounting legal challenges, former president has consistently turned one of his favorite YouTube channels, the fiercely pro-MAGA “Right Side Broadcasting Network”, to turn news his advantage. Still, the RSBN as it’s popularly known is receiving criticism for not being Trump-y enough from an unlikely source current and former employees. The YouTube channel has survived by attracting the most loyal Trump followers who want to see all of Trump’s rallies and using cheaper, less experienced broadcasters to livestream and provide commentary on the former president’s latest moves. Recently, however, people closely associated with RSBN have spotted a slight change in the channel’s editorial stance. With a new pro-Trump streaming channel pending, RSBN sources suddenly think their employers may soon be replaced as Trump’s favorite online streaming network. Speaking to The Daily Beast, five current and former RSBN employees said the pro-Trump media group has shown some warmth towards Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, enough to upset these ride-or-die Trumpists. “If you’re going to get into DeSantis, who is obviously not fan of the base, it’s just a bad business move and the poll numbers reflect that,” former RSBN reporter told The Daily Beast. Another source familiar with RSBN operations said that when DeSantis first entered the race, “questions arose about how to protect him.” That source said there was “backlash” from RSBN superfans that the network was covering DeSantis uncritically. “We exploded,” this source said. RSBN also cut ties with a contributor over criticism of DeSanti. Opinion writer Preston Parra said on Twitter that he was “parting ways with the RSBN” because his views on DeSantis were “potentially viewed as unfavorable for the store.” “It has been clarified that Ron’s PR team may not want to work with an organization that employs writers who criticize him, as I do on my personal social media,” Parra added. Still, while all drama on the network isn’t pro-Trump enough, a former employee who spoke to Daily Beast suggested that it would be difficult to be more pro-Trump. “I didn’t know it was possible,” said a former camera operator. In a right-wing media landscape where personalities are drawn to praising Trump and overcoming his obvious shortcomings, the battle to somehow become the Trumpiest way out can seem like a ludicrous rivalry. But Trump’s ability to deliver his message without criticism or questions is integral to his electoral success. The allegation that the RSBN is somehow not sufficiently pro-Trump isn’t the only criticism current and former employees equate. These sources also claimed that the RSBN was unusually moving towards the GOP “establishment”. “The RSBN is clearly getting a little more buttoned up, getting closer to the organization,” said one former employee. The source continued that network was “on record” to have Kevin McCarthy as speaker, noting that many in conservative base thought position was “a
