The U.S. Department of Defense and multiple international news outlets have confirmed the first combat loss of a crewed American aircraft inside Iranian territory since the conflict began five weeks ago.

An F35 Strike Eagle was shot down over southwestern Iran on Friday, April 3. While one crew member has been successfully rescued in a high-stakes operation, a massive search-and-rescue mission is currently intensifying for the second missing airman.
